The warning by General Vladimir Padrino Lopez, who is also Maduro's defense minister, came after more than two months of violent clashes between protesters and security forces. The opposition and a press rights group say security forces have attacked, robbed and run over protesters and journalists. Fresh clashes erupted Wednesday as thousands of protesters tried to march to the offices of the electoral authority from various points of the capital.
Former FBI director James Comey gave damaging details Wednesday of a series of nine meetings or conversations he had with President Donald Trump before being sacked last month. Comey, who had been leading an investigation into alleged Russian meddling in last year's US election, confirmed reports that Trump urged him to drop an investigation into former White House national security advisor Michael Flynn. Flynn, who quit after less than a month in his post after admitting misleading Vice President Mike Pence, was under scrutiny over his contacts with Russian officials when Comey and Trump met in the White House on February 14.
