Kabul will host a multinational peace conference on Afghanistan Tuesday, as the capital reels from a wave of bombings and clashes last week that left more than 100 people dead and hundreds wounded. Much of Kabul remains on lockdown ahead of the conference, labelled the "Kabul Process", with tighter than usual security including more armed checkpoints and armoured vehicles patrolling the streets. "The Kabul Process is meant to reach a consensus with the region and the world for peace in Afghanistan," said presidential spokesman Shah Hussain Murtazawi.
The White House has defended President Donald Trump’s controversial string of tweets following the recent terrorist attack in London. The president issued several early-morning missives about the attack, in which he lashed out at London Mayor Sadiq Khan and referred to his own proposed travel restrictions as a “travel ban”. Many accused Mr Trump of politicising the tragedy and using it to further his own aims.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A man who illegally rented out space in an Oakland, California, warehouse that caught fire and killed 36 people has been arrested and will be charged with involuntary manslaughter along with an organizer of a party at the site, a source close to the investigation told The Associated Press on Monday.
