Ivey last week replaced fellow Republican Robert Bentley as governor after he resigned amid impeachment proceedings in the legislature. Bentley had appointed Republican Luther Strange in February to fill the seat Sessions held before joining President Donald Trump's cabinet.

Trump, Republicans face key test in Georgia congressional race

Trump, Republicans face key test in Georgia congressional raceVoters cast ballots Tuesday in the US state of Georgia, where a political novice aiming for a shock congressional upset has prompted a last-minute campaign intervention by President Donald Trump to block a tide of Democratic resistance. A broader question is whether Ossoff's performance might signal the rise of an anti-Trump wave that Democrats can ride in their bid to reclaim the House of Representatives, which Republicans seized in 2010.
