Deadly clashes in Yemen rebel ranks spark fears of 'strife'

A Yemeni colonel loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh and two rebels have been killed in Sanaa, in an unprecedented escalation of violence between the allies that Saleh's party warns threatens to push the capital into all-out war. An anti-government alliance between Saleh and rebel leader Abdul Malik al-Huthi has crumbled over the past week, with the two accusing each other of treason and back-stabbing. Witnesses in the capital, which Saleh and Huthi jointly control, said the ex-president's forces had spread in southern parts of the city near the presidential offices, which Saleh still holds despite resigning in 2012.

Second storm hits Hong Kong and Macau amid typhoon recovery

A powerful storm lashed Hong Kong and Macau on Sunday, just days after a punishing typhoon swept through southern China and claimed at least 18 lives. Both cities raised a Typhoon 8 signal -- the third-highest warning level -- early Sunday morning as severe tropical storm "Pakhar" made landfall in the region, where emergency workers were still battling to repair Wednesday's damage. Around 300 flights were cancelled or delayed Sunday, a spokesperson from Hong Kong's Airport Authority said.

Incredibly pragmatic dog braves Hurricane Harvey with, yes, an entire bag of dog food

A dog named Otis wasn't about to go hungry during Hurricane Harvey.  As the hurricane made landfall, a dog was spotted wandering around Sinton, Texas carrying a full bag of dog food.  The German shepherd mix wasn't a stray—he just got loose from a screen porch.  "I kept yelling his name and yelling his name and he wasn't around," his caretaker Salvador Segovia told the Houston Chronicle.  The dog belongs to Segovia's 5-year-old grandson, who had evacuated in anticipation of flooding. Otis is well-known in the town of 6,000, Segovia said. "Otis can go to Dairy Queen and he can get a hamburger. He's the only dog allowed to lie down in front of the county court house," Segovia said. "He also goes to H.E.B. He's not a stray. He's a good dog." A good dog who thought ahead when he ran out into the storm. Luckily, Otis was found.
